After years of poor decision making in regards to diet and exercise, I finally got to a point where I had to make a change in my life. I was not sure exactly what my goals were right off the bat but I just knew I had to start doing something and I wanted to make sure I did it the right way. I hired a personal trainer to initially help me get the ball rolling and then was going to see where it took me. After a few months, my original trainer could no longer train me and it was then that I was introduced to Marie. After the first couple of workouts and getting to know each other, she quickly figured out me and my body (as far as strengths and weaknesses) and then made a plan that was specifically tailored for me. In addition, she also made me a meal plan to follow and allowed me pick her brain about any questions I had about diet.
After working with Marie for close to a year, I have lost close to 40 pounds and cut my body fat by 10 % while gaining muscle and definition in areas that were previously non-existent. This could not have been done without her. Whether it was pushing me on the days I did not want to do anything or challenging me with difficult exercises, she definitely knows how to get the best out. She cared so much about my progress and fitness and invested so much time into helping me get to where I want to be that I got to the point where it was like, “I cannot let Marie down, she is giving me 100%, I have to give the same” She would even come in and meet me on Saturday mornings sometimes, she is very flexible.

I first met Marie in 2011 as a student in my Zumba class. Over the years, I watched her transition into a career in fitness and was impressed by her drive and enthusiasm for helping others in their fitness journey. I began training with Marie in December 2014, 7 weeks after delivering my second child. I was ready to get back into shape, but I wanted to do it the right way and to learn good habits. Growing up, I had always been athletic, but I had never had a workout built just for me. Marie immediately began to help me with my nutrition and built custom training sessions to accommodate my body! While every session hurt in a new way, I loved the changes I saw. I was getting stronger and leaner, and Marie made the whole process fun and exciting. Marie also worked my sessions and home assignments into my schedule; as a mother of two, wife, full-time employee at a hospital, and part-time Zumba instructor, free time is nonexistent. Marie understood these constraints and found ways to help me complete my workouts, even when it felt impossible. She was flexible with her schedule, never made me buy large training session packages, and made difficult exercises easy to understand. I trained with Marie in person until April 2015, when I felt I was ready to transition to her online program. I was nervous that I would stop progressing without seeing her in person, however, by following her custom workout schedule online I have continued to lose weight and drop in sizes. Currently, it is June 2015. I have worked with Marie for 6 months. I have lost over 40 pounds, and 4 pants sizes! I am happy and confident! I am so grateful to Marie, her commitment to my health helped me re-commit to myself. She helped me to build my toolbox of health both in exercise and nutrition. She also continues to be supportive in my journey by keeping in touch and letting me kick her butt in Zumba class once in a while! I was never excited about exercise, but I was turning 60 and had spent too many years in a sedentary job. I have MS, my balance was abysmal and I was tired of falling over. I have five grandchildren; and it has always been important to me to be the “cool” grandma—that meant I needed greater strength and stamina to keep up with them. It seemed like the best thing I could do to reach those goals was to go to the gym and get fit. It just wasn’t happening on my own, so I decided I needed a personal trainer. I worked with a few trainers, and it was when I started working with Marie that things really started to click. My photos from just the past two months show an improved me as a result of exercise and a better diet. I am becoming stronger and have gained greater balance than I have had in years. Marie has taught me to find and strengthen my core, proper form, the types of movements/exercise needed to target problem areas, and the importance of good nutrition. She knows how to encourage and motivate me. I actually have developed an appreciation for a good workout. I stand straighter, I am developing some muscle definition (who knew I had muscles?) and my abdominal muscles are stronger and flatter than I think they have ever been! I continue to work on the original goals and added additional ones of being cute and sassy. Marie is confident I will reach all my goaLS!

Marie put me on a nutrition plan and I worked with her 3 days a week and 3 on my own. I followed her plan and advice religiously and in 4 months I lost 35lbs and built a lot of muscle and definition. I could not have done this without Marie. Her training skills are fantastic, focus on form, build the core first; but her faith, attitude and drive made all the difference. I am 5’ 4” tall and 57 years old.I was always thin and fairly fit until my 50s. The physical changes that come for women of that age were not kind to me. Seemingly overnight, my body composition and shape changed—and not for the good. My clothes were uncomfortable, and I felt weak. I had gained about 20 pounds and lots of inches in just 2 or 3 years, especially in my waist, hips, and abdomen. I didn’t like it, but I didn’t know how to effectively deal with it. In January 2014, I decided that it was time to find a trainer who would understand what I needed and who would customize workouts for me as an individual so that I would see results. Honestly, I felt pretty discouraged about my prospects for progress. I found the right trainer for me in Marie Borquez. The first day I met with her for an assessment, we took my measurements and I cried. My body statistics were even worse than I thought! Marie said, “That’s okay. You’re here now and we’re going to help you take care of yourself.” So I composed myself, bought some stretchy workout clothes, and came to the gym ready to do whatever she asked of me. We started with things that I could handle, and we talked about nutrition. I ate more chicken, fish
whole grains, and green vegetables, and less red meat and dessert. I worked out with Marie for 50 minutes, two days a week, and did some additional workouts independently on other days. I started to see positive changes in just 2 weeks and felt a glimmer of hope. In 6 months, I lost 13 pounds (from142.2 pounds to 129.2 lb.), decreased my body fat from 47% to 36%, and lost 8.5 inches from my waist and 3 inches from my hips, even though I went on some vacations and experienced a bout with shingles and ate some less-than-ideal food occasionally. I have gained some muscle and have more energy. I feel more like my old self and am buying clothes a size smaller these days. The quest for less body fat, more muscle, and better fitness continues. After years of making excuses and finally getting to a point where I was truly unhappy with my health and fitness, I reached out to trainers in hopes of finding the right one for me. I met Marie just 3 short month ago and couldn’t be more happy with my decision to move forward. Unlike other trainers I have worked with, she took time to listen to my overall vision of what I had hoped to achieve and she helped me take the leap. I have worked with Marie 3 days a week and done cardio on my off days. She has been a source of constant knowledge and support in terms of making my life healthier. She’s helped me with not only the accountability aspect of working out but also pushing myself to reach my goals. Being on the road for work often makes it difficult to find time and ways to work out.
